About me

I'm Eliott Sammier, a computer engineering student at Polytech Grenoble. I'm also an idealistic geek, with a tree-shaped mind branching out in every direction. I love free and open-source software, good UX, fixing and tinkering with tech, and solving unusual problems.

Projects

Windows in QEMU/KVM with PCIe passthrough

I went down the rabbit hole of setting up a high-performance VM to play games without leaving my Linux desktop. It is now as stable and more comfortable than a dual-boot, and it taught me a lot about libvirt, drivers, and shell scripting.

Home server & NAS

Backups are important, and second-hand PC hardware can be found for cheap or even free. Why not build your own server? Well, turns out, it's not that easy, but it's fun.

This website

Because writing in an interesting way about what you do is harder than actually doing it. As you can probably tell, it is still very much in progress. As a bonus, I got to clean up my bookmarks and learn about a cool SSG called Zola.

CalendAction

[WIP] An Android app to trigger actions with calendar events (setting alarms, Wi-Fi, DnD state...), because I was tired of my Tasker scripts crashing.

A fork of Simple Gallery

[WIP] To add better EXIF metadata support, because finding a good open-source Android gallery / photo manager app is surprisingly hard.

roomfindrs

A Rust learning project to find free rooms by parsing the entire school's timetables. Currently on pause because the timetable turned out to be unreliable.

... and more coming soon™
